Septic Service
Septic Inspections in Bozeman, MT
A complete assessment of your septic system's condition — and a smart move before buying or selling a home.
Overview
What makes our septic inspections different
An inspection is the one service that tells you, in plain terms, where your septic system actually stands. Pumping keeps a tank from backing up, repair fixes what's broken, but an inspection is the checkup that catches the slow problems before they become expensive ones. We assess the whole system — tank, baffles, drain field, and every mechanical component — and hand you a clear picture of its condition.
Every inspection starts at the tank. We open it, measure the scum and sludge layers, and inspect the inlet, outlet, and baffles or sanitary tees. If your system has an effluent filter, a pump, floats, or a high-water alarm, we test each one rather than just looking at it. A component that works today but is on its way out is exactly the kind of thing an inspection is meant to find.
Then we move to the drain field, which is the most expensive part of any septic system to replace. We look for surfacing effluent, unusually green or soggy patches, and anything that suggests the field is struggling to accept water. We check that surface runoff and roof drains aren't dumping into the field area, and we flag anything that's shortening its life — like traffic, compaction, or aggressive roots.
Inspections are especially useful when a home is changing hands. A buyer wants to know the system they're inheriting isn't a ticking bill, and a seller who can show a clean inspection has a smoother sale. We give both sides a straightforward written summary — what we found, what's working, and what to watch — so there are no surprises after the keys change hands. We're a licensed septic pumper and installer, which means we can assess the system and, if something turns up, we're the same crew that can fix it.

FAQ
Septic Inspections questions, answered
- Do I need an inspection if my system seems fine?
- It's the best way to catch slow problems early. A system can work fine right up until it doesn't, and an inspection finds the worn baffles, failing floats, and stressed drain fields before they become emergencies.
- Can you inspect a septic system before I buy a home?
- Yes — pre-purchase inspections are a big part of what we do. We assess the tank, components, and drain field and give you a written summary so you know what you're buying into.
- Should a seller get an inspection before listing?
- It can make a sale smoother. A clean inspection shows buyers the system is sound, and if something needs attention you can address it on your terms instead of under a contract deadline.
- Do you pump the tank during an inspection?
- Not always. We can inspect with the tank in service, but pumping gives the clearest view of the tank walls and baffles. If you want a pump-and-inspect visit, tell us and we'll combine them.
- Will you tell me if the drain field is failing?
- We will. We walk the field for surfacing and saturation and tell you plainly what we see — including whether it's a warning sign or just something to keep an eye on.
- Can you fix problems you find during an inspection?
- Yes. Because we're a licensed pumper and installer, we can handle repairs or upgrades the inspection turns up — you don't have to start over with a different company.
